February and March 2024

Third ADAPTED Annual Meeting

From February 26 until March 1, 2024, the third ADAPTED Annual Meeting will be held at Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, France. The entire ADAPTED consortium will come together including practice partners as well as fieldwork supervisors from African partner institutions. During the meeting, consortium partners will discuss the current state of the ESR research projects during the SDG-Forum - Research Design Seminar. Furthermore, network-wide training sessions will be offered in the context of the meeting.

February 2024

Advanced Career Orientation Workshop

In the context of the third ADAPTED Annual Meeting taking place from February 26 until March 1, 2024, at Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, France, an advanced career orientation workshop will be offered for the Early Stage Researchers by Dr. Sven Grimm, German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). The focus of the workshop will be career options in international cooperation and international organisations. 

June 2023

Online Lecture on GEMMES approach for ADAPTED ESRs

On June 22, 2023, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will offer an Online Lecture for the ADAPTED ESRs on their new modelling approach GEMMES. The lecture will be given by Antoine Godin, PhD, and is part of the ADAPTED network-wide training. Antoine will illustrate the approach with a country case example. Furthermore, the ESRs will have the opportunity to ask and discuss questions regarding the application of the modelling approach.

January 2023

Academic Writing Workshop Follow-Up Session

During the second ADAPTED Annual Meeting, Keetie Roelen, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), offered a workshop on Academic Writing. The first in-person session treated topics around the different stages of the publishing process in academic journals with a special focus on the peer review process. The follow-up session taking place virtually on 24 January 2023 wil revisit these topics and focus on related issues.

The role of law in ADAPTED's research agenda - Follow-Up Session

On 20 January 2023, the second session of the workshop "the role of law in ADAPTED's research agenda will take place as an online session. The second session is offered by Galina Cornelisse and will discusse the disciplinary role of law in the individual research projects as well as the role of human rights.

October and November 2022

Second ADAPTED Annual Meeting

From 28 November to 2 December 2022, the second ADAPTED Annual Meeting will be held at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Eramus University Rotterdam in The Hague. The entire ADAPTED consortium will come together to discuss the current state of the ESR research projects during the SDG-Forum - Research Design Seminar. Further network-wide training sessions will be offered in the context of the meeting. Among them are sessions on fieldwork preparation and security considerations, academic writing - dissemination and publication of research findings and an introduction of the "Development Effectiveness Rating" (DERa) of DEG. Workshops on "Data Management" and "Research Ethics"

On 24 November 2022, the Research Data Management Working Group of Ruhr-University Bochum will offer a training session for the ESRs. Among the issues covered are the use of repositories such as GitLab for documentation, organisation of research data as well as data protection aspects.

On 25 November 2022, the Center for Research Methods of Ruhr-University Bochum will offer a workshop on Research Ethics. The session will cover issues such as ethical considerations in fieldwork ranging from sampling to interview conduction and the handling of personal data. Furthermore, the workshop will provide useful advice on preparing Informed Consent forms.

Workshop "The role of law in ADAPTED's research agenda"

The workshop on "The role of law in ADAPTED's research agenda" will take place on 27 October and 10 November 2022. It will be facilitated by two ADAPTED supervisors, Prof. Galina Cornelisse, Associate Professor of EU and International Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Prof. Markus Kaltenborn, Professor of Public Law at the Faculty of Law, Co-Director of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy, Ruhr-University Bochum.

Topics of the workshop are, on the one hand, an overview of the actors and sources of law in international and national social protection and, on the other hand, the critical issues facing legal research in relation to social protection as well as human rights in general. After an introductory overview of the topic during the first session, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the role of law in their own projects and to feed their questions into the second part of the workshop.

Workshop "Case study analysis"

A two-days workshop case study analysis will take place on 31 October and 1 November 2022. The workshop will be facilitated by Prof. Dr. Wil Hout, International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam and offers ADAPTED fellows the opportunity to discuss their own case-study design, in addition to some more general issues and principles involved in case-study research methods.

Workshop "A gender perspective towards ADAPTED’s research agenda"

The workshop "A gender perspective towards ADAPTED’s research agenda" will take place on 11th October 2022 online. It will be facilitated by Ana Clara Cassanti, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam together with Mirja Schoderer, IDOS.

September 2022

Social Protection Workshop

On 15 September 2022 a workshop "Social Protection" will be offered as part of the ADAPTED training programme. The workshop will be held online by Prof. Stephen Devereux. Prof. Devereux has been an Extraordinary Professor of the ADAPTED partner, the University of the Western Cape, South Africa since 2012. He has been a Fellow of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex since 1996, where he founded the Centre for Social Protection in 2005.

Research Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop

To prepare ADAPTED fellows for dissemination and communication of their research a workshop "Research Communication and Stakeholder Engagement" will be offered on 7 September 2022 as an online event. The workshop is offered by Susanne von Itter, Executive Secretary of the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI), a development practice partner of the ADAPTED network.

February 2022

Research Training

As part of the ADAPTED 1st annual meeting, two research trainings have been offered on "Political dimensions of governance in ADAPTED’s research agenda" facilitated by Prof. Dr. Wil Hout, International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam and "Relevance of growth theory dealing with unemployment / poverty elasticity of growth", facilitated by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Löwenstein, Institute of Development Research and Development Policy, Ruhr University Bochum.

Career development workshop

Started during the ADAPTED 1st annual meeting, a career orientation workshop "Reflect your own personality und develop your job-related (career)perspectives" took place in an hybrid format. An on-site event on 11 February was followed by an online day on 21 February and indvidual consultations in March 2022.

Presentation workshop

As first network-wide training activity, the ADAPTED presentation workshop 'Getting Your Presentation Right: Perform with Confidence' took place from 26 to 28 January 2022 as an online event.

WP 3 group meeting in The Hague

The Early Stage Researchers working on ESR projects 11-15 under the umbrella of work package 3 - Optimising the impact of poverty reduction-related policies will meet in The Hague on November, 18, 2021.
